Controlling the car of the future
The automotive world has seen major changes in the Human Machine Interface (HMI) over the last 40 years. A desire to simplify how drivers interact with their car, driven by safety and ease of use, has brought in the introduction of voice control and touch screens alongside traditional control methods. As the amount of information and applications available in-car increases, new HMI methods are needed to maximise safety while driving. Gesture based control, improved speech recognition and iPhone style touch screens are just some of the potential methods that will be seen on the car of the future.
As a guest contribution to Engineering & Technology, The Institution of Engineering and Technology’s monthly magazine, Altran Praxis CTO Chris Wild shares his predictions of the new features, and systems to deliver them, that will control the cars of the future, in an article available here.
