Altran Praxis was founded in 1983. Below are some highlights of our history both organisationally and also in terms of engineering achievements.
2011
Altran Embedded and Critical Systems Software Engine has received Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) level three, following an external appraisal validated by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) in July 2011.
Altran Praxis is a key part of the Embedded & Critical Systems Solution Centre and played a key role in helping Altran achieve international CMMI appraisal in just 11 months.

As part of a recent audit we are proud to announce that we are compliant with the OHSAS 18001 standard.
2011
Altran Group reorganises into three dimensions: Geography (recognising that Altran operates in 26 countries), Industry (integrating Altran’s activities in five key sectors) and Solution Practice (integrating Altran’s activities in five strategic services). Read our
corporate page for further information. As part of this reorganisation, the Praxis Managing Director is appointed as Altran Executive Director for Embedded and Critical Systems, one of the five new Solution Practices. Already an expertise centre for Embedded and Critical Systems, the reorganisation gives Altran Praxis a central role in the international Group.
2010
On 13th December 2010, the BSI (British Standards Institute) awarded the ISO 27001:2005 certificate to Altran Praxis Limited for their ISMS (Information Security Management System) system.
2010
Praxis and SC2, formerly owned by Continental, merge to form Altran Praxis.
2009
Praxis India opens in Bangalore.
2008
The
SPARK User Group is the stage for the announcement of the Praxis and
Adacore partnership, with SPARK to go open source.
2007
Praxis receives recognition from the eminent US National Academies and US Defense Technical Information Center for its work in advanced
software engineering.
2006
Thales award £3million contract to Praxis to lead the safety programme on the Watchkeeper Tactical Unmanned Air Vehicle (TUAV) system.
2005
Praxis is awarded the iFACTS contract from the UK’s
Air Traffic Management provider, NATS. This is described as "the biggest advance in Air Traffic Control since the introduction of radar."
2004
Praxis completes the
EAL 5 Tokeneer demonstrator project for the US National Security Agency. All the material from this
security related project became publicly available some four years later.
2003
Praxis becomes a Notified Body under the European
Railway Directive.
2002
Praxis become the first Independent Safety Assessor on the London Underground winning the role on the Jubilee and Northern Line Upgrade Programme applying Praxis'
activeISA methodology.
1998
The Ships Helicopter Operating Limit Instrumentation System (SHOLIS) is successfully completed. This is the first production standard
Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 4
software development under UK
Defence Standard 00-55.
1997
Praxis is purchased by
Altran from Deloitte Consulting.
1994
The
SPARK technology arrives at Praxis through the acquisition of Program Validation Limited.
1993
Praxis wins the contract to produce a
safety management system that eventually becomes the UK’s well known
Yellow Book safety management manual for the
railway industry.
1992
Praxis is purchased by Deloitte Consulting (then known as Touche Ross) for its
software and
systems expertise.
1989
The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) award Praxis the contract to deliver the CDIS
Air Traffic Management system.
1989
Won First Queen Award for Technological Achievement in the design of ELLA jointly with the MoD Royal Signals and Radar Establishment.
1987
ELLA (an R&D software Package developed to support the design of advanced electronic components) was adopted by the British VSLI design industry as a standard for design and information exchange.
1986
Praxis becomes the first UK company to achieve BS5750 (now ISO9001) for the development of
software.
1983
Praxis started business on July 1st 1983.
